The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Friday criticised the life sentence given to the mastermind of the 2011 Christmas day bombing of the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State, Kabiru Umar, saying that he should have been sentenced to death.
CAN spoke through its General Secretary, Rev Musa Asake.
Asake told a source in a telephone interview shortly after the life sentence was delivered that ‘’Kabiru Umar, alias Kabiru Sokoto is supposed to die for causing the death of 44 innocent Christians,’’ pointing out that the court was lenient to him.
According to him, ‘’Sokoto has no reason to be alive. He is evil. I hope they will not just put him there to deceive us and later free him to walk the streets.
‘’He wants to suffer. He started killing innocent people. I hope they should give him death sentence instead of life jail. Why should such a hardened murderer be fed again in prison with tax payers money.
In any case, his being in jail for life will make him not see other parts of the world or whom to kill again. Nobody should think of pardoning him in future.’’
