Seven policemen, three civilians killed in Kwara robbery




Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Agboola Glover-Oshodi, on Monday said seven policemen and three civilians were killed in the robbery of some banks in Offa.







The robbery incident took place at about 6pm on Thursday.



Glover-Oshodi also said that three injured civilians were still receiving treatment in the hospital.



The robbers reportedly also attacked the Owode Divisional Police station, overpowered the policemen on duty and freed some detainees.



Speaking during a media briefing in Ilorin, the state capital, on Monday, the CP, who lamented the loss, said the bandits came with sophisticated arms.



He however said the police had re-strategised and assured the people of the safety of their lives and property.



He also called on the people to collaborate more with security agencies in order to improve on safety of lives and property.



He said, “We lost seven police officers and three civilians. The injured are in the hospital responding to treatment. We have set up a new Special Anti Robbery Squad unit in Offa and Omu-Aran areas. We have shifted at least two patrol team of ‘Operation Harmony’ there. We also had to increase the number of mobile policemen in that area to discourage such action in the future.



“Even though those people came with force of arms, we don’t know where they got them. The almighty God is with us. We will continue to strategise and the people should assist us too to demobilise the men of the underworld.”
