Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang has solicited for the assistance of the US government in the fight against terrorist activities in the country.
Jang said that terrorism had become a global phenomenon which required international cooperation to fight.
The governor, who spoke when the Charge D’ Affairs, America Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Martins Brian, visited him in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Monday, said if the Federal Government had listened to his concern over the infiltration of the state by foreigners, the crisis in the state would have been nipped in the bud.
“Terrorism has become a global phenomenon, with no boundary and requires combined efforts of states and international community to handle,” Jang said and pleaded for the help of the US in bringing the problem to a permanent end.
The governor said his government had cried out on many occasions over the involvement of foreigners in the crisis in the state but that his cries and complaints had been ignored.
He said, “Plateau State, like any other parts of the country especially in the north, has its own challenges; our challenges started many years ago when the military was in power. When I came in I always believe that as a retired general I should be able to resolve the problems, even though we have been misunderstood on this issue. May be if we have been listened to from the beginning the insurgence in the north would have been arrested.
“When we started reporting about foreigners getting involved in the crisis here, we were not believed. It is about foreigners involving in the internal matter affecting the country. I thank God I have been vindicated, what we are trying to stop here escalated and developed into Boko Haram from which some parts of the north are suffering today.”
