PDP crisis: Don’t defect, Bode George tells aggrieved governors

FORMER Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George has appealed to aggrieved governors and members in the party not to leave the PDP.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Lagos, Chief George said whatever grievances the governors or other party members have can be resolved through dialogue.

While he described the governors as landlords in the party, he said it is not in their interest to leave the party to become tenants elsewhere no matter the situation.

There have been speculation that some PDP governors are set to leave the party over disagreement with the leadership of the party and the rumoured second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan, which has created a gulf among governors elected on the party’s platform.

George, who said another four years for Jonathan will not harm anybody, however said another four years is very small in the life of a nation.

He said the party had faced a similar challenge in the past on whether former President Olusegun Obasanjo should run for a second term or not.

Stressing the need for all members of the party with misgivings over President Jonathan’s second term to dialogue with the PDP, the party leader said the party believes that all the six zones in the country should take their turns to govern the country.

He said “Our governors must not go anywhere. This is the party that brought them to limelight. You don’t bite the finger that feed you. If you have any problem, let us sit in the caucus and talk. How can you run away from your house because there is problem. My advice is that we should sit down and talk. What is four years in the life of country. “
