ICPC alleges plot to foil Farouk, Emenalo’s trial

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, yesterday, accused the former Chairman and Secretary of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy Probe, Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo, of plotting to scuttle their ongoing criminal trial.

The anti-graft agency made the allegation after the accused lawmakers, yesterday, urged trial Justice Adebukola Banjoko of an Abuja High Court sitting at Gudu to hands off their case.

The duo asked the high court to stay further proceeding on the matter and await the outcome of an appeal they have lodged before the Supreme Court.

They have gone before the apex court, seeking to quash the seven-count charge preferred against them by ICPC.

They are contending that both the high court and the appeal court in Abuja erred in law and miscarried justice against them when the courts, declined to terminate their trial.

The two lower courts had in their verdicts, maintained that the duo have a criminal case to answer over allegations that they demanded and received bribe to pervert the course of an investigation instituted by the House.
