Nigeria needs prayers now than ever before — Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said Nigeria needs prayers now than ever before.

Atiku, who spoke briefly with reporters in Abuja on Sunday evening, however, said that it would be wrong to apportion blame for the security crisis bedevilling the nation.

He said since he was born, he had never seen the country going through crisis which he said the nation was in now and called on all Nigerians to forget about their religious inclinations and political affiliation to pray for the country.

He said the period of the Ramadan must be used by peace-loving Nigerians to pray for the peace of the country and those living in it.

Atiku said, “This period, as far as we are concerned as Muslims, is a holy month dedicated to mankind, when gifts are shared and we also engage in philanthropy.

“It is a sober month for us. I want to appeal to everybody irrespective of your religious inclination, we need to pray for the country.

“In all my years in life, I have never seen this country facing this type of challenge. May God hear our prayer and restore our country to a path of peace.”

The former vice president, who refused to take questions from journalists, insisted that the occasion was not meant for such.

Atiku said the challenges facing the country, ranging from security, development, unity and stability, required that all hands must to be on deck.

He said, “This means that we must all work together for the progress of the country irrespective of where we come from, religious inclinations and so on.

“We need to be united to ensure that there is peace in the country and we must bring it back to the path of growth and development.

“It is not time for us to shift blame but for us to work hard in order to make sure that it emerged from its predicament to one of the most prominent countries in the world.”
