There was pandemonium at Dogon Karfe area of Jos North local government area of Plateau State when a car reportedly laden with bomb was discovered in the area as the Muslims were preparing for their Friday prayers.

Our correspondent gathered that the 505 Peugeot car, was left along the busy road for a long time.

The panic led to heavy traffic jam along the Murtala Mohammed Way, Constitution Hill road and other adjoining roads as motorists tried to avoid the Dogon Karfe axis to link British Junction, Bauchi road and Angwan Rukuba. There was also heavy traffic along the ever busy Ahmadu Bello Way and Yakubu Gowon Way.

Though the police denied that it was a bomb, an eyewitness said that men of the bomb disposal unit of the state’s Police Command later detonated the bomb before it exploded.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Emmanuel Abuh, however told our correspondent that the attention of the police was drawn to the car and when it was searched, it was found to contain personal effects.

He said, “An alarm was raised by residents of Dogon Karfe area of Jos North that a particular car had been packed at a spot for a long time. We contacted the bomb disposal unit and when they got there, they searched inside the car and discovered that it contained items of clothing and other personal effects.

“But we are investigating the owner and why it was packed there for such a long time.”
