Amosun lambasts INEC over ‘shoddy PVC exercise’

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Saturday lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission for what he called shoddy preparations concerning the ongoing voters registration exercise, because many of the residents of the state could not find their names in the register.

The governor who was visibly angry described the second day of the exercise as a mess.

Amosun, who monitored the exercise, said for these two days the commission had only wasted people’s time, because they went to different polling units and left frustrated.

On Saturday, many residents who saw their names cold not obtain their permanent voter cards while some did not even see their names on the INEC lists.

The governor noted that in 98 units in Sagamu, no single person has collected the card.

Amosun, later held a closed door meeting with the INEC officials including its commissioner for the South- West, Prof. Lai Olurode, and the state Resident electoral commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun, but it ended in a shouting match.

And Amosun had insisted that the exercise should be extended by another two days.
