Nicki Minaj is known for her killer curves and don't-mess-with-me attitude to boot.
But
the amply curvy woman responsible for one of this summer's hottest
tracks - the bootylicious Anaconda - seemingly doesn't see herself quite
the same way everyone else does.
'I consider myself a skinny girl,' she tells Billboard magazine as she graces the cover looking every inch the beautifully curvaceous star that she is.
The remark
about her own figure comes as she addresses the criticism Anaconda
faced, with plenty of haters panning it for objectifying women with
sizeable derrières and degrading those who don't.
'Everything
we see that's labeled as beautiful is very skinny,' she explains. 'In
the song, I kind of say, "F*** them skinny girls." But it's all love. I
consider myself a skinny girl.'
She
continues: 'I went overboard with the video to show that I'm not going
to hide. And those big-booty dancers I have, they're not going to hide.
Black girls should feel sexy, powerful and important too.'
While
the accompanying video may not have been a hit with everyone, the song
itself sure was, landing the 31-year-old her biggest hit to date.
The song
peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 list, beaten to the top
spot by Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass, which, coincidentally is
also about loving one's curves.
And
Nicki's not the only one who believes she is empowering women to be
proud of their figures, with acclaimed fashion designer Roberto Cavalli
labelling her an 'ambassador' for the public's acceptance of a more
shapely body.
'She inspires women to embrace their curves and to be more confident,' he says.
There
is no mistaking her famously fabulous figure in Billboard's latest
issue, the beauty appearing on the cover in a colourful snakeskin
leotard with a metallic gold bustier-style overlay featuring intricate
sequinned design.
Three
sequinned straps go up from the bustline to the neck, while a huge gold
bib-like neckplate and metallic cuffs on both wrists pull the look
together.
She stands with her arms up in the air, her fingers gently touching above her head.
While
the photo is cut off right at her crotch, you can see that her legs are
crossed, accentuating the shapeliness of her thighs and bottom.
Her long raven locks are styled sleekly, with a rolled fringe framing her pretty face.
Her
flawless complexion is highlighted and contoured to perfection, with a
soft pink on her cheeks to match her plump pout, her eyes played up with
huge false lashes, winged kohl liner and dewy bronze shadow.
The
rapper appears in two additional shots wearing the same ensemble, one
hand on her hip as she gives different expressions, both looking
directly into the camera and at the floor.
Another
image sees her squeeze into an extremely clingy black latex mini-dress
featuring a contrasting white pattern that plays up her curves.
Curves for days! The singer squeezes
into an incredibly clingy black latex mini-dress featuring a contrasting
white pattern that accentuates her curves, her raven locks worn in a
lightly crimped style with a heavy rolled fringe, her make-up flawless,
with winged eyeliner and soft pink lips
Her
hair appears a little more crimped in the shot and is pulled up into a
high ponytail, while she combines her two previous stances - with one
hand on her hip while the other is raised above her head in a decidedly
salsa-dancing-like manner.
Her ample cleavage is on full show in the low-cut number, the bodice consisting of a bra-like corset style top.
Though
during the interview it becomes crystal clear that Nicki is no fan of
up-and-coming Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, whose own rise to the top
has been meteoric to say the least, Minaj does give props to singer
Beyoncé, with whom she collaborated on the song Flawless.
'There's
something about her work ethic that always made me feel like no matter
how hard stuff gets, I'm not allowed to complain,' she explains. 'Some
women give me the feeling that where there's a will, there's a way.'
