The Lagos State Fire Services has advised against the use of fire works especially now that the year is running to an end.
The fire services also said a total number of 23 emergency operations were carried out during the last Christmas celebrations.
A statement from the State Director, Razaq Fadipe said out of the cases, 19 were from fire outbreaks, 11 rescue calls and three false calls between the Christmas and boxing days.
Out of the emergency cases, Fadipe said the body of a 30 years old male was recovered from a swimming pool.
The State Fire services which considered the 23 cases to be outrageous called on the public to be careful in handling petro-chemical products, electrical /installations/appliances and other sensitive appliances in various homes. ‘’The Lagos State Fire Service considers these figures to be outrageous and therefore asked the Public to remember that we are fully in the dry season and should be careful in handling of petro-chemical products, electrical installations/appliances and gas cookers/cylinders. They should distance their children from playing with matches and entering the kitchens in their absence. Candle sticks, kerosene lamps and all other naked fire that include bush burning and fireworks should also be handled with utmost care,’’
Fadipe asked the public to call the emergency nos 767 or 112 in time of distress adding ‘’The public should also remember that fireworks has been banned as it has resulted and contributed to many outbreak of fires,’’
