Senate president, Bukola Saraki donates pension to law graduates
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Friday donated his pension as a former Governor of Kwara State to two best graduating students of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, for the 2014/2015 academic session.
The beneficiaries are Tosin Mohammed and Adam Ndakuku.
While presenting N500, 000 cheque under the aegis of Abubakar Bukola Saraki Pension Scholarship Scheme to each of the beneficiaries, Saraki said ABSPSS would give priority to indigent, but brilliant students who are indigenes of Kwara State.
He said the gesture was part of his campaign promises.
Saraki said, “My aim is to ensure that the fund is used as a form of social security to support existing state scholarship scheme. The plan is to further give vent to my belief that government alone cannot effectively take care of the needs of our people.
“Individuals who are well endowed and blessed should support government’s efforts. That is one of the things that today’s occasion represents.
“It is also my belief that the best resource Nigeria has to propel her development is her human resource. The best brains in the world are in this country. Those who can change the course of Nigeria’s development and make it faster and in compliance with world standard are already here.
“Today, the two people to whom we are presenting the scholarship awards made First Class in Law, particularly in a world-rated University like our own University of Ilorin. This is the calibre of people for which this scholarship scheme is meant.”
