In 2 weeks, 570,174 candidates have applied for the Nigerian police job



Over 570,174 candidates have so far applied for enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force, since the recruitment exercise commenced about two weeks ago.

It was gathered that the two portals being used for the recruitment were witnessing record traffic as thousands of candidates applied for recruitment into the police as constables, Cadet Inspectors and Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, respectively.



The Head, Press and Public Relations, Police Service Commission, Ikechukwu Ani told our correspondent on Wednesday that the applications would rise as the days go by.

According to him, a breakdown of the applications indicate that 161,118 candidates had applied as Cadet ASPs, 140,458 as Inspectors and 268,598 as Constables as at Wednesday.

Ani said, “As of Wednesday morning, we have 570,174 applications with candidates for Police Constables having the highest numbers at 268,598, followed by Cadet ASP candidates at 161,118 and 140,458 applications for Inspector.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force said it had sanctioned 20 officers of various ranks across the country for misconduct, following complaints from members of the public through its Complaint Response Unit between November 2015 and March 2016.

The Officer in Charge of the CRU, CSP Abayomi Shogunle stated this in a quarterly report made available to our correspondent in Abuja.

He said, “In the report we released in the first 100 days and up till now, about 20 officers with different ranks have been sanctioned across the country. The errant officers have faced appropriate disciplinary procedures.”

He disclosed that between January to March 31, 2016, the CRU received and processed 1,054 complaints from across the 36 states including the FCT., adding that Lagos State topped the complaint chart with 239 complaints representing 22.68 per cent, FCT 190 complaints, representing 18.03 per cent, Rivers with 100 complaints, 9.49 per cent.
