She acted as host, the nominee and the performer on the evening.
And
Sunday night's MTV EMAs might as well have been the Nicki Minaj show
after the singer landed on the stage in a spectacular ruffle hem dress,
that featured a 14ft train, preparing the audience for an unrivalled
number of wardrobe changes.
Nicki
opened the show with an expletive within her first five words as
presenter and continued to the litter the show with foul language, but
the rap artist was a firm hit with the fans.
She started
the show by saying: ‘What the f*** is good Glasgow? It’s November and
it’s the EMAs. Sit back, relax and get ready to turn the f*** up.'
The
unapologetic singer later said: 'I'm sorry if I cursed, but I am Nicki
Minaj,' setting the tone for the rest of the Nicki-centred awards
ceremony.
US
rap artist Nicki went from teaser to crowd pleaser, riling the Glasgow
audience early on with her own rap as a tribute to 'the Scots', which
featured the cult favourite Proclaimers hit I'm Gonna Be.
Nicki's
original song featured the line: 'Queen, that's what they call me, plus
I'm ballin' with the tartan army' before she broke into 'I would walk
500 miles...', complete with audience participation.
Her
fans took to Twitter on mass to show their support for the Bang, Bang
singer, saying she was 'hilarious,' 'perfect' and 'killing it.'
Uk
artist Labrinth said: '@Labrinthda1st: #NickiMinaj ft @SkylarGrey
sounding great tonight go get her song it's trending right now
#BedOfLies!'
Another
user followed up with: '@AnthonyMinaj: Tonight has been AMAZING. Nicki
got a win, she hosted BRILLIANTLY and premiered a new song with Skylar
Grey. Congrats! @NICKIMINAJ'
Look after look: Nicki changed outfits three times in the first thirty minutes of the show, starting as she meant to go on
Summing up
the evening, a fan gushed: '@JackTMUK: @NICKIMINAJ honestly, I'm
speechless about tonight queen, you've made mine and many others night,
congratulations'
Distracting
from her performance and early acceptance of the Best Hip Hop Act,
users were most impressed by Nicki's eight outfit changes on the live
show.
Opening
the ceremony, the buxom brunette wore a dress that appeared to defy
gravity as she was lowered onto the stage with the 14ft train below her.
In a
suitably show-stopping fashion, she made three outfit changes in the
space of thirty minutes and continued as she meant to go on, showing off
her shape in a catsuit, ladylike red dress and even a golfing outfit.
And
while Nicki's outfits showed off almost every area of her famous
physique, she didn't show as much of her derriere as viewers would have
expected.
Accepting her award, Nicki hinted at her behind in a tiny white thong that showed through a little white dress.
Taking the initiative for a little self-promotion, Nicki also revealed the date of her next album release.
The money shot: Nicki bent over to play crazy golf in a skin tight white sports dress on stage
She said:
'After two years, I'm releasing my third album The Pink Print and I'm so
excited to share it with you on December 15. And I will be back here to
perform.'
As
if the singer didn't have enough on her plate on Sunday evening, on top
of hosting the awards show, the singer delivered a show-stopping
performance that drew on early favourites and future hits.
Nicki
performed a medley of Super Bass and Anaconda in a skin tight sheer
body suit, twerking on the stage and flaunting her curves.
Nicki
didn't take herself too seriously though, laughing when she attempted a
British accent for the crowd and even dressing up in an adorable sports
outfit to do mini golf on stage.
As
a treat for 'The Barbs,' Nicki brought a fan on stage to putt with her,
as she stood by in a little bobbed wig and a green-collared dress.
On
the whole, Minaj was a hit with the audience, maintaining their
attention throughout the MTV awards ceremony, its 20th anniversary
show.
Speaking
before the show, Nicki said: ‘I was having a lot of anxiety yesterday
actually because I know there is a lot of pressure and it’s a big job
and I always want to give my best and be amazing.'
Adding: ‘After I rehearsed yesterday I felt a lot better - it’s going to be a really, really fun show.’
The 31-year-old was nominated for four gongs: Best Female Act, Biggest Fans, Best Look and Best Hip-Hop Act.
Adding the crowning glory to the show, the beauty wore a sparkling mini dress and reverted back to her waist-length locks.
She ended the evening as she began, making a ninth and final outfit change for the after-show photocall.
This
time, Nicki sported an oriental green jacket and cute black playsuit
that cinched her in at the middle and followed out into a tulip short.
